I had a Leon Cupra 300 DSG after my Octavia and it was noisier and not as well built. Other than being much slower than the Cupra the Octavia was a better car imo. If going for an FR Leon you'll need the 184 diesel or 1.8/2.0 petrol models otherwise you won't get the better rear suspension (beam vs. multi link) and it'll handle worse than the vRS.
The current Skoda cars are nicer across the board than the equivalent VW and are roughly the same price. Even in Europe Å koda have been moving from the "cheap" brand to the "more value for your money" one lately. Å kodas often are a little bit bigger and/or better equipped than similarly priced VWs. 5.
